Oksana Fursa

Oksana Fursa is a Ukrainian ambidextrous artist, painter, illustrator, designer, doctor of art history and professor. She was born on 5 July 1972 in Kyiv. In 1992, she founded the Ukrainian School of Design. Since 1992 she has been the president of the Salvador Dali Academy of Contemporary Art (Kyiv) and the Confederation of Designers of Ukraine.

In 2014, Oksana Fursa was awarded the title ‘Pearl of Ukrainian Folk Art’ for creating an impressive series of works in the style of folk art. ‘Miracle Beasts’, “Apple and Honey Fairy Tale”, “Patchwork” and “Moon Lace” for the National Historical and Cultural Reserve “St Sophia of Kyiv”. These works have become an integral part of the collection of the national museum, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and have undoubtedly entered the history of Ukrainian contemporary art.

Oksana Fursa graduated from the Faculty of Art and Graphic Arts of the Tallinn Academy of Design (Estonia) and received her second degree at the Faculty of Architecture of the Kyiv Civil Engineering Institute (Ukraine).

In 2022, Oksana Fursa started working on a series of wartime images called Rust. This series became a vivid manifestation of her talent and creativity, as the artist developed a unique author’s technology for growing natural rust on linen canvas, based on which she created retrospective paintings that reflect how life goes on despite the aggression of rust against light and the energy of movement.

Her works are marked by the depth and glow of colour, resistance to external damage, which makes them unique and recognisable. Oksana Fursa’s work combines contemporary art, a unique technology that no other artist in the world uses with the motifs and colour of Ukrainian folklore, giving her works a special meaning and depth, making them priceless and unique.

The artist’s exhibitions are sold out, and her works are in private collections around the world. Oksana Fursa continues to experiment and amaze viewers with her unique vision of the world through the prism of art.
