This painting was born out of the feeling of forced emigration due to war — a simple pretzel, an integral part of the Ukrainian artist’s new environment in Germany, but look closer: through its golden stream, the blue and yellow colours of the Ukrainian flag quietly shine through.

For me, this work is more than food or nostalgia. It is a symbol of identity, resilience, and the bittersweet journey of emigration.
It is not just an image of a pretzel, but a powerful symbol of personal experience, longing for home and the fusion of two cultures. It is not just a still life, but a personal story of adaptation and preservation of identity.
